Total Eritrea sponsored African Cycling Tour 2018

Total Eritrea in collaboration with the Eritrean National Federation of Cycling supported African cycling championship
2018 as a platinum  sponsor. More than sixty male and female cyclists from eight national teams namely Eritrea, Ethiopia, Egypt, Uganda, Seychelles, Nigeria Benin and South Africa have participated in the event.

African cup 2018 incorporates Criterium, chronometer and the expectation to observe breakaways, attacks and counter attacks was very high. The tour had three different stages. The first and second classic races held in Asmara was chronometer between teams of different countries.   Following the two competitions, the Tour continued inside the city where hundreds of audiences chanting and made the criterium very fascinating.

Since the Italian colonial era, cycling is among the most popular sports in Eritrea and it is to be recalled that two cyclists from Eritrea, Daniel Teklehaimanot and Merhawi Kudus, made history in the world's most famous bicycle race of tour de France.  The two riders are members of MTN Khubeka now called Dimension Data, the first ever African team in the Tour de France, as well as the first Eritreans to take part in the race. As the event had live coverage in ERITV the only local television network, and the local newsletters Hadas Eritrea and Eritrea Profile. Total Eritrea used the occasion in promoting further its visibility.
